East German Ice Cream Spoons
Back in the day in good old DDR, if you were a kid, you go to reach your hand into a jar of these little spoons. If you were lucky and got a spoon with your name on it, you got a free ice cream. If you didn't match, well then, you simply had another Gertrud or Billy to add to your collection.
It's hard to describe how charming these are. Many of them featured this crazy marbled plastic—the wonder-material of East Germany. They are small, but they fit wonderfully in your hand. And they each have a little name on them. We pick the spoon, you get lucky, either way.
These are stunning examples of everyday design from a time gone by, from a country gone by.
